If you surf, swim, dive or snorkel, enjoy the ocean with your personal Shark Exclusion Zone when wearing a Shark Shield™. The Shark Shield™ GPSS01 is a compact, versatile and lightweight personal unit designed for snorkelers, swimmers, surfers and scuba divers.

The GPSS01 is an ideal unit for snorkelers and swimmers. The unit is fitted to the lower leg with the supplied neoprene pouch. Attached to the pouch is an antenna which trails unobtrusively behind the user. The GPSS01 is an excellent alternative to the specialized DIVE01 unit for scuba divers, who also surf or free dive. Please note, the DIVE01 unit has a battery operating time of 4 hours, compared to the 2 hours of the GPSS01, however the DIVE01 unit must be worn with a wetsuit. Barely noticeable in the water, the GPSS01 unit can be worn with or without a wetsuit, and is simple and easy to use and maintain.

If purchasing the unit for surfing, a leg rope must also be purchased. This leg rope attaches to the antenna and surfboard. The antenna actually becomes part of the leg rope. The GPSS01 will suit surfers who want peace of mind for those times and places where sharks are known to be a potential threat. The Shark Shield™ incorporates two electrodes, which project the field from the unit and thus create an invisible protective shield that surrounds the user. Both electrodes must be immersed in the water in order to give protection to the wearer. The Shark Shield™ GPSS01 encases both electrodes in a flexible tubular antenna, which trails out from the user's ankle.

The field generated by the Shark Shield™ is detected by the shark through its sensory receptors known as the Ampullae of Lorenzini, situated on the snout of all predator sharks.The initial discomfort increases if the sharks approach the transmitter until it becomes intolerable. The sharks then veer away and leave the immediate area. The Shark Shield™ uses technology invented by the Natal Sharks Board of South Africa. This technology has been used for the last 7 years by commercial and recreational divers around the world.
WARNING - SHARKS ARE DANGEROUS Sharks can be dangerous and often unpredictable creatures. While great care has been taken, and extensive testing has been done, to develop and manufacture the Shark Shield™, it is simply impossible to guarantee that all sharks will be deterred under all circumstances. With or without the protection of a Shark Shield™, all sharks should be treated with respect and caution. Water sport participation in the presence of sharks is inherently dangerous. Any human activity in the water near sharks must always be considered as possessing a considerable degree of risk.
